The clocks has gone back. It’s an extra hour in bed but it can really throw some people off with their sleeping pattern. The good news is that it doesn’t have to. There are some things that you can do to keep your sleeping pattern and get a good night’s sleep ready for work on the Monday morning.
Don’t Have the Extra Hour in Bed
Avoid sleeping for that extra hour. This will instantly throw your sleeping pattern off. It may sound like just an extra hour but your body really doesn’t need it.
Get up and enjoy the extra hour by watching TV, getting on with work earlier (if you do work Sundays) or enjoying a good book. If the weather is nice, get out and explore your area while it’s quiet.
Eat Well Throughout the Day
Eating a well balanced and healthy diet is important for a good night’s sleep. Make sure you have nutritious meals throughout the day; try to plan ahead.
You may find yourself eating an hour earlier than normal because of your body’s pattern but try to hold off. If you really need something, try a snack of a handful of nuts or a piece of fruit.
Keep Yourself Busy
You may feel like you just want to go to bed early, so keep yourself busy. Make a list of things to do the night before.
You can make some jobs a priority. Remember you have an extra hour so you could get more done than you usually would.
Don’t Forget to Exercise
Use the extra hour to your advantage and get a little extra exercise in. You can’t say time is against you!
It doesn’t have to be a lot. Just 10 minutes will be perfect to ease your muscles, send the right chemicals around your brain and make you feel more energetic (yes, really!).
Don’t Do Things in the Bedroom
Unless you’re cleaning it, you don’t want to spend time in the bedroom that isn’t sleeping.
If you use it to work or watch TV, your brain will get confused and not be able to sleep afterwards. The only thing you can do is read a book before you sleep but be careful as it can have the same effect.
Stop Letting Stress Bother You
You may think that you want to solve all your problems with your extra hour. That isn’t going to happen.
Don’t let stress bother you—it will affect your sleeping habits. If you can’t solve a situation immediately, push the problem out of your mind. There’s no point worrying if you can’t do anything!
Go to Bed at Your Normal Time
Create a routine of going to bed and getting up at the same time every day. Even with the clocks going back an hour, go to bed at your usual time, even if you’re ready the hour earlier.
This will help you keep your routine the next day and let’s your body know this is the time to wake up naturally.
