Know the Type of Scars
Acne can leave different types of scars. The most common type that you will find is an ice pick scar.
These are deeper scars but will have a narrow surface. However, if you had acne on your cheeks and temples, you may have boxcar scars, which look similar to scars left from chicken pox.
Rolling scars are another type which look like waves with tapering edges or you may suffer from Keloid scars, which are raised, thick and red due to the excess collagen that was used to try and repair your initial scar.
For Clinical Options Try Microdermabrasion
One of the most useful and cost effective treatments is called microdermabrasion.
This is often carried out in beauty parlours and exfoliates the skin through the use of crystals. The skin around your scar is buffed down so that it is more even.
This helps to make the scars look less obvious. It is painless and quite relaxing for many patients.
Consider a Chemical Peel
Is the scarring is very bad, you may want to consider a chemical peel. This is done by a professional and will remove the top skin layer.
This allows for the new skin to show through, where there is no scarring and pigmentation. Some patients feel a burning or tingling sensation after the peel.
Use a Lemon and Sugar/Salt Scrub
Exfoliate your skin through natural methods. Lemon is full of vitamin C, which will help the immune system work and replenish the skin.
Exfoliating also helps to remove the top layer of the skin, similar to microdermabrasion.
If the scarring is on your face, you may want to stay away from the lemon as the acid content can be too high for the sensitive area.
Try Tomatoes to Lighten the Skin
Tomatoes rubbed onto the skin are a great way to lighten the skin.
This will mean that the skin is a similar colour to the acne scars, effectively hiding them. You can also add some salt or sugar to create an exfoliate.
Try Laser Treatments
There are laser treatments available to get rid of acne scars.
You will need to find a professional company and look for one that is cost effective for your needs.
The problem is that this is quite invasive and can cause some side effects, such as burning on fine skin.
Avoid Acne Scars in the Future
Don’t make your scarring worse by creating new scars. The best thing you can do is avoid picking or squeezing your spots.
It does not get rid of the pimples any quicker and often makes them look worse!
