As you get older, your body starts to deteriorate. It’s a natural part of aging that you may or may not be happy with. One part of the body that you can really work on avoiding deteriorating is your brain! With age, the memory can start to fade and problems like dementia can happen. Here are some tips to lower the risks of all that.
Do the Crossword or Other Paper Puzzles
Get a paper and do the puzzles—all of them. You may not be great at them at first but as you practise, you will get much better.
These also help to improve your cognitive abilities. It will keep your brain working so it is less likely to succumb to old age problems.
Do Regular Exercise Too
You can’t just give your brain a workout. You will also need to give your body a full workout. This makes sure the blood gets pumping around the body well and that the heart and lungs keep functioning as expected.
The brain is then able to get all the oxygen that it needs so it can function on the best level. You will find your memory is good and your alertness and concentration levels are excellent.
Get Enough Sleep to Give Your Brain a Rest
Like the rest of your body, your brain needs to rest on a regular basis. It gets this when you sleep—and only when you sleep.
Even if you’ve not done much during the day, make sure you get six to eight hours of sleep on a night so you’re refreshed and your brain is ready to go.
Spend Time with Your Friends
Your brain needs the social interaction and you get this best when you spend time with friends and family.
Get outside or to their homes and enjoy your time together. Laughter is also good so make sure you tell funny stories and just do something that will allow you to have some fun!
If you live far away from friends and family, consider joining a club or volunteering to get the social interaction.
Don’t Let Stress Get the Better of You
Stress is a negative emotion that you really don’t need in your life. It really affects your brain because it can stop you from sleeping.
The problems are constantly on your mind. Get the stress in check and learn ways to keep it to a minimum.
Eat More Brain Boosting Foods
Your diet will have a direct effect on your brain. You need to make sure it is full of nutrients, especially those that have been proven to help boost your brain power.
Omega 3 is the best option and found in oil fish and some bread. Consume it on a regular basis and have oily fish around twice a week.
Keep Your Alcohol Levels to a Minimum
Alcohol has a negative effect on the memory so keep it to a minimum. One glass of red wine is relatively good for the heart but any more than that and you risk forgetting everything!
It’s also generally not good for the body or skin and will make you look older than you really are!
