Depression
Surprisingly, women are more likely to suffer from depression than men, whether it is normal depression or post/pre natal depression.
This is usually due to the hormonal changes, which is why post natal depression is so common. The good news is that there are things that can help you, especially cognitive behaviour therapy and antidepressants.
If you feel sad for a prolonged period of time and don’t feel like socialising, it could be depression.
Breast Cancer
1% of female deaths in the world are because of this disease. It can be hereditary but that is not always the case. There is more help now and the ability to screen for it but it is still a major concern.
Check your breasts regularly for any lumps and painful bumps that were not there before and speak to your doctor if you are concerned.
Ovarian Cysts
These are not always life threatening but can cause problems with fertilisation. Many women develop cysts on their ovaries without really noticing.
They may feel some pain now and then but they can develop and disappear on their own. However, they can grow and burst, sometimes damaging the uterus.
The cysts can be removed by surgery but it depends on their size and risk.
Heart Disease
This is actually a major concern for men and women. There are a number of factors in life that have caused heart disease to be such a major concern, including unhealthy diets, smoking and drinking.
Cut down on the amount of alcohol and caffeine you consume and eat a healthy and balanced diet. If you smoke, quit and reduce your risk of heart disease.
Female Sexual Arousal Disorder
Some women find that they have no desire to have intercourse, even though they really want it.
This is often to do with a hormonal imbalance or because they are not actually attracted to their partner. It depends where the disorder is affecting – the physical arousal or the mental one.
It is worth seeking medical help to get to the bottom of this.
Yeast Infections
Yeast infections are extremely common for women. In fact, most women will suffer from at least one in their lifetime.
It is often due to moisture around the genital area and leads to inflammation and itchiness but becomes extremely sore.
There are many topical treatments to help soothe the irritation and fight the infection and some go away on their own.
Thyroid Problems
When the thyroid under or over works, it causes problems of weight control, energy and other health issues.
Most women will suffer from an underactive thyroid, which means that the metabolism slows down and women gain weight.
However, if you lose weight suddenly, if could be because you have an overactive thyroid. The doctor will do tests and prescribe medication if you need it.
