The first time you got pregnant, you could relax when you needed to most of the time. The second time, there is someone else running around and needs your undying attention. It can be stressful, but you need to keep calm. Your toddler has no idea what you’re going through, so you need to understand that. That being said, here are ways to manage your toddler and your pregnancy at the same time.
Spend One-on-One Time with Your Toddler
Make sure you spend some time with your child. He wants attention and deserves some during the day. Find games that you can play together that aren’t problematic with the bump or find stories to read together. You could even have fun with some arts and crafts.
Talk to Your Child
Make sure you have conversations with your child. They don’t all have to revolve around the new baby, but some are good. You could ask for tips for names or talk about the feeling that you get. When baby kicks, let your toddler feel and discuss what he can do when the little one comes along. This is a great way to make him feel like he is part of this.
Get Help with the Housework
You don’t need to do the housework all yourself. When running around after your toddler while pregnant, your energy will be zapped and you need time to yourself. Ask a friend over to help you with things or make sure your partner pulls his weight around the house. The more help you get, the more time you have to relax and enjoy the pregnancy.
Have a Nap During Nap Time
Your toddler will still have a nap time during the day. This is a great time for you to shut your eyes and gain some energy back. The housework really can wait, since it is just an hour or two at the most. You need to get your energy back somehow ready for your toddler’s burst of energy in the afternoon.
Get Outside for Fresh Air
Fresh air and exercise are good for you and for your child. Get down to the park and let your toddler run around in the grass or play on the swings. You can sit down on a bench while you keep an eye on him. If the park isn’t an option, just go for a walk down to the shops. You don’t really need to buy anything. The aim is to give both of you some exercise.
Enjoy Those Early Nights
Once your toddler is down, it’s time for yourself. Get an early night at least twice a week so you feel rejuvenated the next day. This is especially important later in the pregnancy when you start to find it hard to sleep. If your toddler needs something in the middle of the night, make it clear that it is up to your partner to do that. You’re bringing a little one into the world.
